Language of Instruction German, English Stiftsschule Engelberg is a Christian day and boarding school under the trusteeship of the Benedictine monastery of Engelberg, Switzerland. About 120 students attend the school, some 60 students are boarders. Stiftsschule Engelberg offers a coeducational college preparatory school (grades 7 to 12). All students graduate with both the Swiss high school diploma and the IB diploma. The dual qualification allows graduates to pursue their education without entrance examination at any Swiss university and facilitates admission to universities outside of Switzerland.

Engelberg is situated in Central Switzerland, near Lucerne. The town is a renowned mountain resort. Our students take advantage of the local facilities to participate in a variety of sports.

Stiftsschule Engelberg follows the Swiss curricula for bilingual college preparatory schools: All teaching from grade 7 to 9 is done in German, from grade 10 geography, biology and mathematics are taught in English. In grade 11 and 12 the teaching of these subjects follows IB curricula. Three languages, that is German, French and English, complete the number of the six IB subjects. Additional subjects are taught to meet the requirements of the Swiss high school diploma ("Matura"). The dual qualification program provides a broad academic education to ensure that graduates are fully prepared to pursue their education at university in any subject of their choice, be it in Switzerland or abroad.

Besides mandatory education in sports, music and the arts our students have the opportunity to do a variety of sports, play musical instruments, join an orchestra and choir, or take part in plays.

Due to the bilingual character of the program applicants must have prior knowledge of German and must be willing to acquire proficiency in German during their stay at Stiftsschule Engelberg. Knowledge of English is expected to be appropriate to the grade applicants wish to enter. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Admission usually takes place at the beginning of the academic year in mid-August. For more information please contact the secretary's office at +41 41 639 62 11 or info@stiftsschule-engelberg.ch
