Learning Support Programme
The International School of Lausanne overlooks forests, mountains and the beautiful Lake Geneva (Lac L?an) and is within an hour of the stunning Swiss Alps. It is a not-for-profit, English-language day school that emphasizes academic excellence and rigor in a supportive school and family environment. It prepares students for a global education and entrance to the best universities in the world.
At present over 600 students are enrolled and many parents are engaged to work in international companies in Lausanne or along the Swiss Riviera.
The precise location of the school is in the small town of Le Mont on the northern edge of Lausanne. It has served the local and international community since 1962 and now the wonderful new campus, opened in 2005, offers modern, high quality facilities for students and teachers. The attractive building is fully equipped and the grounds include a football field, a multi-sports arena, playgrounds and a landscaped garden. The School has a double sports hall but also uses local swimming pools and, of course, the mountains, for the sports programme.
The school comprises the Primary School (ages 3-10), including the Early Childhood Centre; and the Secondary School, made up of the Middle and High schools (ages 11-13 and 14-18 respectively). Throughout the school, the curriculum and educational strategies are drawn from best practices from around the world. The school is fully authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate Diploma programmes (Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma). The students' results in the IBDP range from very good to excellent. A Learning Support Programme, including English as an Additional Language, is also an important part of the curriculum.
Many co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are offered to enhance the programme. These include skiing, ice-skating, soccer, cross-country, basket-ball, swimming, rock climbing, art and craft, drama, technology, choir and stage band.
A School Board of 8 to 12 members governs the school. The Board sets general policy and budgetary limits within which the Director operates the school.
The International School of Lausanne is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). ISL is an IB World School. It is also a member of The Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS).
