Founded in 1882, and accredited by NEASC and CIS, Brillantmont is a co-educational school preparing students for diplomas that are recognized and accepted by all universities.
Students come from 35 different countries to study in either the British programme (Years 7 to 13), preparing the Cambridge International Examinations (IGCSE, AS, A Level) or the American programme (Grades 6 to 12) preparing for the High School Graduation Diploma. All the teaching is in English but French, the host language, is compulsory.
Small class sizes and close teacher contact create a stimulating learning environment, reflected in the excellent examination results. The school provides one-to-one curriculum counseling and assists students individually with higher education applications. Careers counseling is also available.
Brillantmont also offers language courses to learn intensive French or intensive English on a termly or annual basis. These programmes combine the intensive study of French and English with sports and activities and provide an opportunity to discover Switzerland thanks to numerous excursions.
Great emphasis is placed on technology in the classroom and teachers fully embrace interactive learning approaches, taking full advantage of the wireless campus. The interactive website enables parents to keep abreast of their child’s progress on a daily basis. School facilities, which are constantly updated, include two science laboratories, a language laboratory, an art and a photo studio, a computer laboratory, a music studio, a dance studio, a multipurpose sports court and a clay tennis court. A new sports hall, with classrooms and a stage area is due to be inaugurated in Spring 2012.
The school prides itself on its family environment, which creates a “home from home” in its five boarding houses. Every student follows Personal Social and Health Education courses with our school nurse, dealing not only with health issues but also with social skills. Resident teachers support the students and help them adjust to boarding school life academically and socially. The single or twin-bedded rooms are bright and spacious and many look over Lake L?an. A wide variety of extra-curricular activities and competitive school sports’ teams take place after class. The school also works on a number of charitable projects including Habitat for Humanity and Global Harmony. Each year delegations of students attend the Model United Nations in Singapore and The Hague. Each weekend, activities in Switzerland and its neighbouring countries are organized and the city of Lausanne offers a remarkable range of cultural opportunities.
Students are admitted on their previous academic record accompanied by a recommendation from their former principal.
