Learning Support Programme
The American International School of Vilnius was founded in 1993 to serve Vilnius' growing international community. AISV is a private, not-for-profit, co-educational day school offering an American curriculum with English as the language of instruction for pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
A seven-member School Board governs the school with the American Ambassador or his/her designee serving as chair. The AISV student population currently represents over 20 different nationalities. Most of the full-time faculty members have advanced degrees and teaching credentials. AISV offers a comprehensive educational program for students in kindergarten through grade 12.
AISV also offers a program called Early Childhood Playgroup for two or three half days a week and a full or half-day pre-kindergarten program for three- and four-year-olds. The elementary grades (grades K-5) are self-contained. The middle school consists of grades 6-8 with four full-time teachers. A High School core curriculum is offered in grades 9 through 12. Subjects for all K-12 students include mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, physical education, art, music, computers, library, and Lithuanian culture and language. AP ( Advanced Placement) classes are offered to students who are qualified to take these challenging courses.
French or German and Russian languages are taught in grades 4-12. The school has an extensive library/media center and computer lab. Each classroom is equipped with computers. Students also have access to lap tops and a wireless Internet connection is available for student use throughout the school building. The average student-to-teacher ratio is 12: 1.
The academic year begins on August 27th and ends on June 14. Classes are held Monday-Friday from 08: 30-15: 30 for grades K-12. The half-day pre-kindergarten day starts at 08: 30 and finishes at 12: 30. The full day finishes at 17: 00. In addition to regular classes, AISV offers an extensive after-school activity program for students in grades Pre- K- Gr. 12.
Admission is contingent upon the applicant's suitability for the program. (AISV is unable to accept some students with special needs and learning disabilities). Eligible students may be admitted at any time during the school year. Children entering pre-kindergarten must have reached their third birthday by November 1 of that year. Kindergarten applicants must be five years old by November 1. Class assignment will be determined through an examination of past school records and personal interviews and testing. English as a Second Language instruction is offered to students needing assistance with the English language.
