The British School of BeijingThe British School of Beijing, founded in 2003, is a U.K. registered primary and secondary school. The school has two campuses in Beijing - one in the Embassy district and the other located in the suburbs not far from the airport. CURRICULUM The British School of Beijing follows the English National Curriculum as developed by the British Government. It is a standardised programme and is delivered here in Beijing in the same way as any British School worldwide. All children are taught in mixed ability classes, with children of the same age. Children may be taught English, Maths or other core subjects in smaller groups if we consider support is necessary. STAFF The school recruits teachers with outstanding professional credentials from the UK and relevant experience delivering the British National Curriculum. In order to be qualified, teachers must posses a degree (usually a 3 year course at UK University) coupled with a specialised and relevant Educational/Teaching diploma issued by a reputable institution (usually 1 year). Alternatively, teachers take a specialised 4-year teaching degree, leading to Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) qualification. Each teacher also has the support of a full-time Teacher Assistant recruited from the most prestigious independent schools in the UK. This approach helps ensure that the highest quality of teaching and learning takes place in our classrooms, particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy. FACILITIES Teaching staff at the school are supported by a full range of modern facilities from purpose built music rooms and science labs, to ICT suites to gyms, tennis courts and a football fields. SCHOOL YEAR AND SCHOOL DAY The school year runs 190 days begining at the end of August. The school day begins at 8.45am and finishes at 3.30 with after school activities running until 4.30pm.
