The Waterloo campus of the Brussels English Primary School (BEPS)The Waterloo campus of the Brussels English Primary School (BEPS) was opened in September 1999. In June 2000, BEPS took over, in its entirety, all the facilities of the Scandinavian School, which moved to a new location. The campus is situated south of Brussels on the main road to Waterloo. It provides classes for children aged 2½ to 11 years. Additionally, it works closely with the newly established World International School, which offers an innovative and individually-tailored middle-school program for 11 to 16 year olds. The campus comprises five buildings, including a superb gymnastics hall and sports center, with four classrooms, play and green areas, and parking. The classrooms are spacious and purpose-built and class sizes will not exceed 16 pupils. The gymnastics hall is of international standard and has seating for 300.The curriculum, as established and developed by BEPS, is based on the practice and philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) which encourages work of a high standard, and much stress is placed on the needs of pupils of many countries and backgrounds. Children begin their formal studies at age four. They also have training on computers in the classroom and the computer centre, and learn French (beginning or advanced) from pre-school. Special attention is given to children with special needs, and the school can accommodate pupils with physical handicaps.The school year extends from early September to late June. The school day is from 09: 00 to 15: 30 hours, but Wednesday is a half-day. There are a number of extra-curricular activities including sports and swimming, as well as a variety of trips to historic and cultural sites in Belgium. The upper primary classes will be participating in one-week residential excursions with the children from BEPS in Brussels and Limal.A door-to-door bus service is available. The mini-buses are fitted with seat belts and the drivers are carefully selected.Admission is based on previous school records and an interview with the parents and child.
