Unique

The French School of Sydney follows the French school curriculum prepares students for the French examinations (Brevet and the French Baccalaureate) and takes into account the developments of the French education system. Yet given the Australian context and taking into account its clientele the International French School of Sydney encourages diversity through the study of the English language as well as promoting an awareness of the Australian culture society History and geography. Although English language studies occupy an important place in the school curriculum french remains the first language of communication. Nevertheless the school also offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in English for senior students.

Academic diverse intercultural

The school follows the northern hemisphere academic calendar that is the school year begins in August and ends in June of the following year and the educational programs at the school are bilingual rigorous and academic. In Preschool and Primary Classes (Classes de maternelle & classes primaires) students are introduced to the fundamentals of learning in the preschool which is based on the French model but also satisfies the requirements of NSW Community Services. The primary curriculum expands upon students’ learning through a focus on bilingualism and introduces them to various extra-curricular activities aimed at nurturing their development musically artistically and creatively. In Lower Secondary Classes - Years 6 to 9 (Collège) the academic focus is maintained with the introduction of additional languages like Latin german spanish and Mandarin being included for study to broaden students’ intercultural experience. Furthermore diversity in the curriculum through debating and competitive sports combine to enrich students’ learning experiences. In Senior Secondary Classes - Years 10 to 12 (Lycée) students elected to study one of two strands which lead to the award of the French Baccalaureate: ES (Sciences économiques et sociales) and S(Sciences). In the senior years if students prefer to follow an English program of study the International Baccalaureate offers a rigorous but rewarding alternative for students. Both the French Baccalaureate and the International Baccalaureate are universally recognized for entry into university.
