Study Biomedical Medical Science at Charles Sturt University


Charles Sturt University offers a 3 year Bachelor of Medical Science by full time or distance education mode. This exciting and challenging course enables graduates to become part of a team of health care professionals; in the community, in the laboratory or in research.

This unique course offers students the option to select one of three major specialisations; Pathology Respiratory Science or Pharmaceutical Science. Students can also elect to take a generic program comprising various electives 

PATHOLOGY

Medical scientists working in pathology form a vital link in the medical chain, working in hospitals and private pathology laboratories to analyse specimens and help provide diagnosis of human disease.

This degree also gives you the expertise oncology, genetics, immunology, haematology and anatomy for careers in research



RESPIRATORY SCIENCE

With Asthma a increasing health problem in Australia, there is a significant role for respiratory scientists. As a graduate of this specialisation, you will work in respiratory laboratories developing and assessing treatments for asthma, cystic fibrosis and emphysema.


This specialisation is undergoing expansion to encompass cardiology and neurophysiology clinical measurements to meet the ever increasing demand for qualified personnel.



PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE

A pharmaceutical scientist formulates tests and uses products to maintain and improve the level of health care provided by modern medicines. You will be at the cutting edge of medical science by studying the principles of drug design, testing and utilisation in a chemical, microbiological and molecular context.

Whether working in the formulation testing or manufacturing of drugs, the preparation of vaccines or the design of new gene therapies; graduates from this specialisation will be at the forefront of modern medical science.

TWO DEGREES IN FOUR YEARS!

It is also possible to complete two degrees in four years by combining the Bachelor of Medical Science with the Bachelor of Medical & Applied Biotechnology. This combination of degrees can be undertaken consecutively or as a fully integrated double degree.
