The Faculty of Education, Health and Science

Charles Darwin University

The Faculty of Education, Health and Science (EHS) comprises the Schools of Education, Health Sciences, and Science and Primary Industries; the Centre for Access and English as a Second Language (ESL); and the Senior Secondary College in Alice Springs. They provide a broad selection of innovative programs that prepare students for a diverse range of career paths through study at the high school, VET, degree and postgraduate levels. Our research is well respected nationally and internationally and we have a specific focus on regional and tropical environments.

As a tri-sector institution, Charles Darwin University is one of the few Australian universities which offers a full suite of programs incorporating: a Senior Secondary School; Vocational Education and Training (VET); and Higher Education. EHS provides seamless articulation between these sectors and the success of our students attests to the advantages of studying within this environment.

EHS makes major contributions to shaping the future of the local (and wider) community through its programs in fields such as teaching, access studies and English as a second language, child care, nursing, community services, psychology and social work, agriculture and horticulture, land care, and biological and environmental sciences.

Our research performance is exemplary and in areas of strength and specialization, EHS is on a par with any Australian university. The Faculty has been a major recipient of Australia Research Council (ARC) grants in recent years; has hosted two University Research Centres and five areas of Research Strength and Priority. We are a major contributor to five Commonwealth funded Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), The Centre for Remote Health, the National Centre for Tropical Wetland Research and an ARC Key Centre.

The Faculty has excellent staff who are dedicated to their students and the progression of knowledge. EHS staff are regularly awarded CDU Excellence in Teaching Awards and many of our academics are leading researchers on the national and international scene.
